Salix
What is Salix?
What the Funding is For:
Salix funding supports public-sector organisations to reduce carbon emissions from their buildings. For schools and trusts, this can include projects such as replacing end-of-life fossil-fuel heating systems with low-carbon alternatives, alongside eligible energy-efficiency measures that support the wider decarbonisation of the estate. The funding is designed to help organisations move towards cleaner, more sustainable buildings while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Salix’s Phase 4 PSDS guidance confirms the scheme supports heat decarbonisation and energy-efficiency measures in public-sector buildings.
Am I Eligible for Funding:
ou may be eligible for Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme support if you are:
A public-sector organisation in England.
A state-funded school, maintained school, academy, free school or multi-academy trust.
A local authority or other public-sector responsible body applying on behalf of eligible buildings.
Responsible for the relevant building, either as the owner or through a lease arrangement that places operation and maintenance responsibility on the applicant.
Applying for works that reduce direct carbon emissions from public-sector buildings.
Replacing an end-of-life fossil-fuel heating system with eligible low-carbon heating measures.
Able to show that the project would not proceed without the grant funding.
When Should I Apply?
Salix funding windows are usually linked to specific scheme phases and can be competitive, so early preparation is essential. We recommend seeking support as soon as a potential heat decarbonisation project is identified, particularly where surveys, feasibility work, designs or cost information are still required. The strongest applications are usually built well before the funding portal opens, allowing enough time to assess eligibility, develop the project scope and gather the evidence needed for submission.
What Evidence Will I Need?
The stronger the technical evidence, the stronger the Salix application. Salix funding is focused on reducing direct carbon emissions from public-sector buildings, so applications need to clearly show the existing heating position, the proposed low-carbon solution, the carbon savings and the deliverability of the project. We will discuss what is most appropriate for your site, but common evidence can include:
-
Heat Decarbonisation Plan
-
Decarbonisation Surveys
-
Energy Usage Data
-
Mechanical & Electrical Surveys
-
Building Fabric Information
What We Provide You With
We will support you through the full Salix application process, helping to review eligibility, shape the project scope and prepare the evidence required for submission. This includes developing the project narrative, coordinating technical information, reviewing costings and supporting completion of the Salix application portal.
Where required, we can arrange additional surveys, support the preparation of heat decarbonisation information, visit site to understand the building and proposed works, and coordinate quotations from suitable contractors or consultants. We will also help collate the supporting evidence needed to demonstrate the existing heating position, proposed low-carbon solution, carbon savings, project costs and deliverability.

Not Suitable for Your Project?
That’s okay, one of our other funding bid’s might be more suited to your project. Check them out below:
Condition Improvement
Fund
CIF provides annual capital funding to help eligible schools and sixth-form colleges address condition needs, improve building safety and keep facilities compliant and fit for purpose. It is commonly used for projects such as roofing, heating, safeguarding, compliance and essential building fabric works.
School Rebuilding
Programme
The School Rebuilding Programme supports major rebuilding or refurbishment projects for schools and sixth-form colleges with buildings in very poor condition, where significant long-term investment is required. It is focused on sites where rebuilding or major refurbishment is likely to be the most appropriate solution.
Urgent Capital
Support
Urgent Capital Support is for serious building condition issues that pose an immediate risk to health and safety or could result in the closure of all or part of a school. It is intended for urgent situations that cannot wait for the next suitable funding round.
Post-16 Capacity Fund
Post-16 Capacity Funding supports eligible education providers to create additional space for 16 to 19 learners where there is expected demographic growth and existing capacity is not sufficient. It can help fund new or improved teaching spaces, specialist facilities and wider estate changes needed to accommodate additional students.
